Open-Plan Living
A single space combining two or more functions — commonly kitchen, dining and living — where colour choices need to work across several uses and light conditions at once.
An open-plan room like this one has to work as both a dining space and a living space under one shared light source — the pale, neutral wall shown here is a common low-risk choice precisely because it reads consistently across a room used for more than one purpose.

Lighting note: Different zones of an open-plan room commonly face different directions and get different light, sometimes noticeably so — the same colour can look quite different at each end of the room.

- Testing a sample only near the window and assuming it looks the same at the darker end of the room
- Using a different colour for every zone, which fights the sense of one connected space
