This group is not held together by any single measurement. It spans L*36 to L*75 and chroma 10 to 67 across 4 hue families (green, yellow, red and orange) — too wide, on both axes, to claim a shared property. The association is cultural and conventional rather than perceptual: these are the colours the idea has come to be expressed in, not colours that measurably resemble each other. Treat the group as a set of separate options rather than a palette that will automatically cohere.
They are not interchangeable. Chroma runs from 10 to 67 and lightness from L*36 to L*75, which is a wide enough saturation spread that the strongest of these will dominate the quietest if you use them at the same scale. Pick one to lead. They also split on undertone (neutral, warm and cool), so pairing across that split is where this group most often goes wrong.
Assessed individually, most of this group comes out strong for trim and joinery, accents and small objects, secondary surfaces, furniture, rugs, curtains and bedding and walls and large surfaces. That is a property of the measurements rather than of the mood label — a colour does not become easier to use on a wall because it is described as clearly coloured but not loud.
At an average chroma of 39 these have enough colour to survive a change of light without collapsing, but they will shift. Warm bulbs will push the warm members further warm and drain the cool ones. Sampling matters here more than the swatch does.
Shared by at least half the colours in this group, taken from their own individual assessments.
The grouping itself is an editorial judgement — a mood is a convention, not a measured property of a wavelength. Everything said about the colours in it above is derived from their measured values. See methodology.
