Jewellery metals

No metal tone is objectively best for any person — the most reliable way to choose is to compare two metals directly against an outfit or skin, rather than follow a fixed rule.

Yellow gold

Reads as warm and traditional; often intensifies nearby warm colours.

Rose gold

Reads as warm but softer than yellow gold, with a visible pink undertone.

Silver

Reads as cool and crisp; can visibly tarnish to a duller grey over time without cleaning.

Platinum or white gold

Reads as cool and refined; visually very close to silver in most lighting.

Brass

Reads as warm and casual; a common budget or vintage-styled alternative to gold.

Copper

One of the warmest, most distinctly coloured metal tones; can develop a green-blue patina if unsealed.

Mixed metals

A genuinely flexible, increasingly common approach that sidesteps the warm/cool question entirely.
